Dundas Vale Teachers' Centre on New City Road in Cowcaddens. Built in 1837, the Normal School for the Training of Teachers ( later named Dundas Vale College ) was designed by David Hamilton. It was the first institution in Britain specifically for the professional training of teachers. |

Allan Glen's School

Allan Glen was a wright who became a wealthy property owner who left £20,000 in his will in 1850 to make "provision for giving gratuitously a good practical education to about fifty boys, sons of tradesmen or persons in the industrial classes in Glasgow". In 1912 the school became a Science High School under the Glasgow School Board. Children who passed the entrance exam, benefittd from the high standard of teaching at the school. It ceased to be a selective school in 1973 and closed in 1989. |
