Nether Catrine House Catrine is a
village in East
Ayrshire.
It was formerly a centre of cotton manufacture. The village is on the River Ayr which previously provided water power for the local industry |

Voe ( reservoir ) in Catrine in 1967 Catrine
was founded in 1787
round a cotton-spinning mill. A bleachworks was added later. The power system of the mills were remodelled c1827 and c1947. The photo shows the reservoirs or 'voes' at the east end of the village, built to store water to keep the mills running when the flow in the River Ayr was low. In the right background is part of the bleachworks. |
